Tooth Gems.
A tooth gem is a cosmetic procedure in which a jewel is attached to the enamel of the tooth.
The application takes about 10 minutes for a single gem. Larger designs require more time and can take up to 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
Tooth gems are applied using professional dental adhesives, the same way an orthodontic bracket is attached to the teeth.
Tooth gems generally cost $50 for one single swarovski crystal. Please refer to our pricing under tooth gems tab when placing a booking.
Most tooth gems are semi-permanent and can last anywhere between six months to one year. Some people may have their tooth gems last for several years. The right aftercare and oral care, not biting into hard foods where gems are placed will increase the longevity of your tooth gems. We offer a one month warranty, if the gems fall off within one month of the application, it can be reapplied for free.
The jewels are tiny glass crystals or authentic real solid gold. They have no sharp edges. It will basically come out "the natural way" the same as it went inside your body. All gems are lead-free, toxic-free and safe if you were to accidentally ingest them.
For the first 24 hours refrain from brushing as the adhesive requires 24 hours to reach maximum strength. Once the 24 hours are complete it is recommended to continue brushing as per normal to avoid plaque build up around the gem. DO NOT USE AN ELECTRONIC OR ULTRASONIC TOOTH BRUSH 48 HOURS POST TOOTH GEM APPLICATION. Highly recommend keeping up with your oral hygiene clean every 6 months with your dentist.
Please ensure you have eaten and brushed your teeth prior to your appointment as you won't be able to eat for one hour after the gem application. We only recommend soft foods 12 hours after the gem has been applied. Refrain from consuming acidic drinks/food for 24 hours as this can weaken the strength of the bond causing your gem to fall off. If you must have an acidic beverage use a straw and be careful.
We do not accept gems from somewhere else to be applied at our studio. Reason being we cannot guarantee the quality of the gem and will not take responsibility of the material which is unknown to us.
This depends on the type of retainer you have. If it is a Hawley retainer (the wire kind) then yes. Bring it with you to your appointment and the technician can ensure the placement of the gem does not interfere with the removal or application of the retainer in the mouth.
No, a tooth gem shouldn't be applied on a crown or veneer. This is due to the reasons of firstly that the dental adhesives used are not suitable for artificial teeth, and may cause actual damage to the veneer/crown.
Secondly, the gem will not last long and have shorter retention times with artificial teeth. We provide an honest and reliable service at MTW.
Therefore, don't waste your money or time applying on this type of tooth. We only stick gems on natural tooth structures as the products will hold a strong bond on these surfaces.
Unfortunately, the technician legally cannot remove the gem or adhesive. We can only replace a new gem on the smooth natural tooth. Please book an appointment with your dentist to remove any product from the tooth. A reasonable price for any gem removal is $50 AUD. Avoid reapplying a new gem until you have removed the previous remaining adhesive on the tooth.
Preferably we recommend a whitening treatment before the application of gems to lessen the discoloration of your tooth if the gem falls off or if you have it removed. You can continue to have regular whitening sessions post gem application. Select teeth whitening & tooth gem bundles when placing your booking.
No, the crystal is bonded to the teeth the same way an orthodontic bracket is applied. The procedure and removal are the same processes. When removed it will simply pop off and polishing or brushing will remove any remaining bonding material. We only use quality dental grade adhesives which will not affect the tooth.
Yes, beware of other tooth gem vendors, as lead does pose a health risk. We only stock Authentic Swarovski Crystals/Shapes, Solid 18KT Yellow & white gold which are lead-free. Our Diamond gems are also lead-free.
